(A.18.1,2,49) – Loc. A-H-7 – This Denman periodical had 3 names over it’s lifetime, Denman Islander until June 1991, then Island Life until approximately the end of 1992 (in an attempt to appeal to Hornby and Lasqueti Islands), and finally as Denman Island in 1997. It was published monthly until July 1992, and then bi-monthly for a year and then back to a 4 to 6 pp. monthly as Denman Island. The Archives collection is incomplete.
The publication ran anywhere from 4 pp. to 24pp. the first year it was corner stapled, then folded and stapled, and finally as Denman Island with 4 to 6 pp. simply folded.
The publication was primarily a community newsletter containing announcements, editorials, ads, classifieds, event calendars, and occasionally opinion pieces. It was distributed free on the island except in 1991 and 1992 it had a newsstand price of $2.00.
Denman Islander was started by Mike Comeau and produced by his daughter Teresa. In mid 1990 the work was taken over by Tim Wees, and finally in 1995 by Jen Carruthers.
Issues 6, 7, and 8 of Denman Islander/Island life and all issues of Denman Island were found in the existing Museum collection. Three issues came from the Dora D. library. All other issues were donated by Ron Sakolsky who obtained many of them from Hillel Wright.
