(A.18.48) – Loc. A-H-6 – Minus Tides was a Denman periodical first published in Spring 1987 with the intention of being a quarterly, but publication soon became intermittent ranging from bi-annual to annual.
The Archives holds the following issues: Vol.1, Nos.1&3; Vol.2, No.1; Vol.3, No.1; Vol.4, No.1&2; Vol.5, No.1; Vol.6, No.1; Vol.7, Nos.1&2; Vol.8, No.2; Vol.9, Nos.1&2; Vol.10, No.1; Vol.11, No.1; Vol.12, No.1; plus International issues 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017.
Minus Tides was a letter size publication of from 24pp. to 70pp., folded and stapled often using coloured stock for the cover.
Minus Tides was primarily a literary periodical of fiction, poetry, non-fiction, comics, art, and ads. Contributions came from Denman and Hornby Islands and further afield.
Minus Tides was started by Hillel Wright and edited by him until 1996 when Robert Schmidt came on as publisher. When Hillel moved to Japan in 1998, Sean Woods took over editing and production of Minus Tides. Minus Tides ceased publication sometime in the late 2000’s but was reborn as Minus Tides International by 2014 with Hillel again as editor and Robert Schmidt as publisher until 2017 when Hillel passed away at Sointula.
Most of the editions in the archives were donated by Ron Sakolsky, some of which were given to him by Hillel Wright. Another 4 editions came from the Dora D. library.
