Chrome Island and it’s Petroglyphs – Sept. 2022

September 2, 2022

Extensive areas of the smooth rock surfaces of the Chrome Island are covered with figures
created by grinding shallow grooves into the rock. There is extensive evidence of First
Nations’ previous occupation of the shores of Denman Island and also around Deep Bay on
the adjacent shores of Vancouver Island. The images on Chrome Island include sun-stars,
fish, birds and deer but by far the most common are of people. There are no images of
subjects that suggest the presence of Europeans on the Coast.
