(A.18.43) – Loc.A-H-6 – The Oystercatcher is a Denman yearly periodical published each Mayday. The first issue was 2004 and the Archives holds all issues to the present.
The Oystercatcher is a 28 to 32pp. letter size stapled magazine.
It is an anarchist surrealist publication containing fiction, non-fiction, opinion, memoir, poetry, letters and art.
It is produced by Ron Sakolsky and Sheila Nopper and edited by Ron.
The Archives collection was donated by Barry Landeen and Ron Sakolsky.
STITCHES fonds
STITCHES fonds – 2008 – 2015 – .5 cm. of textual records
(A.18.44) – Loc,A-H-6 – Stitches is an occasional Denman publication of 4 issues so far,2008, 2009, 2011, 2015. The Archives holds all four.
Stitches is either 18 x22 cm. or 14 x 22 cm., and 20 to 24 pp., folded and stapled.
Stitches is a zine of opinion, fiction and non-fiction, poetry and art from a feminist perspective.
The 2015 issue of Stitches is dedicated to the life of Ana Miriam Leigh, founder of DIWOS, who passed away in March of 2013.
Stitches is produced and edited by Sheila Nopper. The issues in the Archives were donated by Barry Landeen.
TIDELINE fonds
TIDELINE fonds – Oct. 1993 – May 1994 – 1.0 cm. of textual records
(A.18.4 & A.18.47) – Loc.A-H-6 – Tideline was a Denman periodical first published on Oct.22, 1993. It was published monthly until May 1994. The Archives holds all these issues.
Tideline was 4 to 12 pp. letter size, folded and unstapled.
It was a community newspaper containing island news, columns, fiction, announcements, letters, opinion, and ads. The last 2 issues list a price of $1.50.
Tideline was edited by Hillel Wright, Wes Michin and Sarah Paddock
Issues No. 3 & 8 (A.18.4) were in the existing Museum collection. The remaining issues (A.18.47) were donated by Ron Sakolsky and Sheila Nopper.
The Liberator fonds
THE LIBERATOR fonds – 1993 – 0.5 cm. of textual records
(A.20.1) – Loc.A-H-9 – The Liberator was 8 pp. periodical on newsprint publ. on Pender Isl. By Clifford Hunt. It was distributed across the Gulf islands incl. Denman. The Archives has 2 issues (Vol. 1, No. 4 &5).
The editorial policy was very critical of the Islands Trust.
The editions were donated by Graham Brazier.
“The Voice” fonds
“THE VOICE” fonds – 1997 – 0.5 cm. of textual records
(A.22.04) – Loc.A-H-12 – The Voice was a 24 pp. published in the Comox valley by David Beattie. The Archives has only the Oct. 1997 issue, half of which concerns logging on Denman.
The edition was donated by Graham Brazier.
The Islands Grapevine fonds
The ISLANDS GRAPEVINE fonds – 2023 – Issue 1572 2023-02-23 – 18 pp plus 1 pg insert – .02 cm. of textual records
(Accession pile) – Office wall shelves – The Islands Grapevine is a Denman Island weekly newspaper published on a regular basis since [1983] on a commercial basis by various individuals who have assumed the role of publisher. The paper supports itself by advertising and has changed hands at least three times. The fonds comprises a single issue.
Note: Complete hard copy sets as well as digital versions (since 2017) are known to exist but have not been offered to the Archives.
Republic fonds
REPUBLIC fonds – 2023 – Issue Vol III No 2 Feb – .01 cm of textual records
(Accession pile) – Office wall shelves – The Republic is an anarchist broadsheet “curated” by the eponymous Frumious Bandersnatch and occasionally distributed through the Islands Grapevine. The content consists entirely of collages and composed photos.

DENMAN MAPPING PROJECT fonds – 2000 – 0.5 cm. of textual records and maps
(A.18.35) – Loc.A-H-10 – The Denman Mapping Project is a part of the Islands in the Salish Sea Project which on Denman was done in cooperation with the Denman Conservancy Association and the Denman Arts Society. Ten artistic maps were produced by various islanders and compiled in a spiral bound booklet of 17 pages, letter size. The original works of art are much larger and are held by the Conservancy. Text explanations accompany each map which are in colour. Artists involved were Jane Fawkes , Peter Karsten, Velda Parsons, Jennifer Balkie, Marilyn Jensen, Cynthia Minden, Fireweed, Ron Dobie and the school kids.
JEANETTE TAYLOR fonds – 2008 – paperback book 15×22 cms. 316 pp.“Tidal Passages”
(A.19.14) – Loc.A-F-5 – “Tidal Passages” is a 316 pp. book published in 2008 by Harbour Press . It is a history of the islands lying to the north of Denman from Quadra to Sointula.
Reverend Harper Nixon of Denman is mentioned.
The book was donated by Ann Paisley.
