In the 1960’s development in the Gulf Islands began to rapidly increase and in 1969 the Province of BC imposed a freeze on subdivisions which would create lots under 10 acres. The Islands Trust Act of 1974 established that body “to preserve and protect the Trust area and its unique amenities and environment for the benefit of the residents of the Trust area and of British Columbia generally”. Denman Island’s first Official Community Plan was completed in 1978.
